Floating and sinking feed together

Pangasius feed through the water column and near the bottom but take floating pellets well. Floating feed lets you judge appetite; a sinking feed alongside it reaches fish feeding lower down. Many farmers use one as the main feed and the other as a supplement.

Good practice

  • Run aeration through the night in densely stocked ponds; paddlewheel aerators work well.
  • Feed in the morning, once oxygen has recovered from the night.
  • Exchange water regularly and check ammonia often; pangasius produce a lot of waste.
  • Hold back feed for a day or two before harvest.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Too little aeration for the stocking density.
  • Using a low-energy feed for a fish with a big appetite.
  • Letting water quality slide until the fish develop an off-flavour.
  • Stocking more fish than the pond can clear waste for.
  • Harvesting while the fish are stressed.
